Why is WhatsApp so Popular ?
Today WhatsApp has became an integral part of all our lives. Our day starts and ends with WhatsApp. Can you even imagine a life without it ? No right? Have you ever wondered how this app has placed itself on a position that it holds now? Let’s see how WhatsApp came and stood at the top in spite of other Trending Apps like Facebook and Skype.
WhatsApp was founded in 2009 by Brian Acton and Jan Koum, former employees of Yahoo!. Their job application was rejected by Facebook and then they started working for the Development of WhatsApp and now it has become more popular than Facebook.
WhatsApp has simple interface and there nothing to learn about using the app. When WhatsApp came into market the rate of sending messages on phone was almost 1 Rs per message. It was not affordable by either student or middle-class man. WhatsApp feature of sending unlimited messages at very low rate (almost 90 % low) was the key of success for them. Chats can be done on WhatsApp at lower rate for longer period of time. Also Sending of photos and videos became easy with WhatsApp. WhatsApp got customers from small villages because of its ability to work on 2G also.
The most important point that WhatsApp developers kept in mind while developing the App was that everyone has mobiles in their hands and not laptops or pcs. When WhatsApp introduced the feature of sending emojis, smileys and gifs the downloads of WhatsApp started increasing more than before.
Everyone wants privacy and WhatsApp gives you the same. Your data is always safe with WhatsApp. You have heard about Facebook hack, Twitter hack , Instagram hack, but did you ever hear about WhatsApp hack? No Right? It is all because we can't use WhatsApp in two devices simultaneously. We can only open account on WhatsApp using the mobile no and not email, UserID, etc. Because of this, no third party Application have access to our WhatsApp account. In WhatsApp we can mute anyone we want, we can keep our status private. This way we can assure our safety.
WhatsApps is useful but if not used properly one has to face its dire conciquecses too.
For Developers :-
ERLANG is the programming language used to code WhatsApp. The server used by WhatsApp is Ejabberd(XMPP) which facilitates instant message transfer between two or many users on a real-time basis. Because of High reliability and sustainability even under peak traffic WhatsApp developers chose Ejabberd. All the messages of user are saved onto a database file in crypt form. In crypt form no one could read anyone's private messages. The crypts used by WhatsApp are crypt2, crypt5, crypt7, crypt8 to encrypt all the data so that no one could read the messages from the database file.
